The scientific theme of Dr Masayuki Yoshida included pathophysiology of vascular endothelium during atherosclerosis and inflammation. In particular, he discovered a novel signal transduction pathway of E-selectin, an adhesion molecule inducibly expressed on the surface of endothelial cells upon leukocyte adhesion. His research group recently created a novel intravital imaging system to directly observe leukocyte recruitment to the inflamed, athero-prone vasculature in vivo. From 2018, he serves as the president of Japanese Vascular Biology and Medicine Organization.
