The research in the Potente laboratory is centred around blood vessels, particularly, the regulation of blood vessel growth (angiogenesis) by metabolism. We study how the cells of the inner vessel lining – the endothelial cells - sense metabolic signals, and how they use this information to establish vascular networks of organ-specific shape, density, and function. We also study the metabolism of these cells and assess how changes in endothelial metabolic state influence vascular growth and differentiation.
